One quick thought for the day that can never be overstated:
Jesus does not exist for you. You exist for Jesus.
Sin breeds a self-entitlement mentality in all of us. We want. We want stuff, security, pleasure, freedom, etc. And we honestly believe that Jesus should give it all to us. Like the crowd who came to him for more bread, we go to him for the one thing we want that he can give. Does Jesus want the crowd to be fed? Yes. Does Jesus want us to have good gifts? Yes. But the crowd wanted only that. They had no desire to have a relationship with Jesus.
And they missed out on the greatest relationship they could have ever pursued. They could have known Jesus. And he is so much more than the giver of bread. He’s the giver of life!
We are like the crowd when we go to Jesus for help with that one problem that we cannot seem to solve. We only go to him when we have a need.
And we miss out on the greatest relationship that we could have ever pursued. We can know Jesus. And he is so much more than the fixer of our problems. He’s the giver of life!
Follow Jesus because there is nothing better in life to do. He is so much greater than a bread-giver. He is so much greater than a problem-solver. He’s the Christ, the God-man, the Savior of the world, the Atoner of sins, and so much more.
And then you’ll realize you have embraced your calling in life – that you exist to follow Jesus.
