As I’m studying through the book of Ephesians, I’m struck by the reality of the theological statements that Paul is making. From the very beginning of the theological section of the letter before he gets into the applicational section, he lays out that all the blessings we have – election, adoption, redemption, forgiveness, unity in Christ, an inheritance – all of them come as gifts from God that we do not work for.
It makes me wonder why we don’t rest in God’s blessings more? Instead, we seem to want to “bless ourselves” through our works and effort, instead of resting in Christ and focusing on Him.
